The third season of the teen drama series Euphoria, which made its debut in 2019 and immediately caused a sensation across the globe, has been officially greenlit. On the other hand, not every performer will be coming back.
After appearing in the show’s first two seasons, the actress Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, announced a few months ago on Instagram that she would not be returning to the role in the upcoming season. Javon Walton, whose role as Ash Tray was brought to a bloody end in the penultimate episode of the second season of Euphoria, is one of the other performers who will not be returning for the show’s third season.
Viewers were left wondering why Ferreira wouldn’t be coming back, and reports began to circulate that she and the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, had a contentious relationship. But, the actor has just gone on record to discuss her departure from the show and the reasons behind it.
In Euphoria, Barbie Ferreira does not desire to play the role of the “fat best friend.”
A recent episode of the podcast Armchair Expert had an appearance by Barbie Ferreira, during which she revealed her decision to depart Euphoria, which she had previously announced in August of last year.
It has been rumoured that Sam Levinson, the creator of the show, and Ferreira had tension and conflicts, which resulted in rewritten plots for Kat. Ferreira played the role of Kat in the show. For instance, it is said that Levinson intended Kat to have an eating issue, but Ferreira declined to take part in a story arc that involved such a development for the character.
Kat, who began the series as an insecure fan-fiction-loving teen who then becomes a cam girl in Season 1, felt rather pushed to the side in the show’s second season, which a lot of fans believe is due to the actor and creator’s issues with each other. Kat’s character began the series as an insecure fan-fiction-loving teen who then became a cam girl in Season 1.
On the other hand, this is not the case with Ferreira. She shared her thoughts by saying, “So, for me, when people ask me about Season 2, it’s typically they come at me with, like, I was some sort of victim to Season 2, and I’m always like, ‘No, it’s okay, promise.'” It’s to the point.’
“I never asked to be a part of this drama, and to this day, I haven’t even discussed the fact that I was involved in it,” she said. In my perspective, if a problem doesn’t go away on its own, I shouldn’t bother trying to solve it because that would just add gasoline to the fire. It has become independent and started acting on its own. Don’t put too much stock in everything that you read.
She added this clarification in response to a few additional claims that were circulating: “I genuinely did not walk off set.” When I did once sprain my ankle, I ended up needing to obtain an X-ray of it. Could that be what they have in mind?
But, she did appear to concur that by Season 2, Kat’s plots had run out of steam and needed to be replaced. Ferreira freely acknowledged that “I don’t think there was anywhere for [her] to go.”
“I believe there were possible destinations for her to visit. Simply said, I don’t believe that it would have been appropriate for the show. I have my doubts that it would have been fair to her, and I believe that all sides were aware of this fact. I wanted so badly to be able to say that I wasn’t the friend who was always overweight. I don’t want to play it, and I have a feeling that they didn’t want to play that either.”
It was a challenge to locate the story that continued with her. Hence, it was really distressing to watch, especially to see the supporters reacting negatively to it. I simply had the impression that perhaps I had stayed a little longer than was appropriate. Because of this, I found that it was a relief to finally be able to say, “Alright, I don’t have to worry about this, and neither of us have to worry about this,” since it’s a stressful situation.
Levinson is still an important part of this narrative, despite the fact that Ferreira came to the conclusion that “Sam writes for, like, things that he relates to.” I don’t believe he can relate to Kat in any way. Because I like Kat, I get to choose my own way forward. At first, I thought, “Oh, my God, I’m a complete failure.” I’m a loser.’ It has turned out to be a very positive thing.”
While production on Euphoria Season 3 is scheduled to begin later this year, it is still unknown whether or not her departure will have an impact on the show’s filming timeline.
Ferreira made the departure announcement in an Instagram post a few months ago, although she did not specify the reason why she was leaving at the time. The following is what the post says: “After four years of getting to portray the most unique and mysterious character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye.
“I hope that many of you were able to see yourself in her as I was, and that she brought you joy as you watched her develop into the character that she is now. I hope that you were able to sense the care and love that I poured into her from the bottom of my heart. Katherine Hernandez, I adore you.
Her Instagram post also acknowledges “angel” Hunter Schafer, who plays Jules, for a piece of artwork that she did for the departing star, which further demonstrates that Ferreira is still on good terms with the other actors despite the fact that she will no longer be a part of the cast.
HBO Max presently offers streaming access to both Season 1 and Season 2 of Euphoria, both of which feature Ferreira in recurring roles. Here you may learn more about the upcoming third season.
